Homeschooling Beginnings

For some time Katelyn has expressed a displeasure for school.  Whether that displeasure is expressed by her saying, “I don’t like school”, or by her getting into trouble at school, it is apparent that she is having issues there.

I have always had a disdain for the public school system.  I do not believe it is the state’s job to educate my children, and what the schools are teaching these days is far from basic education.  It is more lined with statism, political correctness, and whatever mindless philosophies the educators hold.  The school system is also hostile to boys, which is a whole other story.

But, despite my dislike for the public schools, our kids are there.  Why?  Well, Tracy has stated many a time that she does not have the patience nor the desire to homeschool.  At the time I agreed with her assessment, and began praying that my children wouldn’t be too badly victimized by the humanistic garbage in the schools.

Last week, Tracy came to me and told me she wants to start homeschooling Kate.

Wow.  Apparently, God has been convicting her of the need to have her start homeschooling our kids.  She has been reading James Dobson’s book “Bringing Up Boys“, and the part in there which talks about the public schools hostility towards boys really struck her.  Katelyn is a girl, but she is definitely a tom boy at heart, and no doubt some of the philosophies the public schools have that make it difficult for boys there seem to be having an affect on Katelyn as well.

Now, one of the issues with homeschooling is the cost.  Well, we discovered Connections Academy, which is free.  Free.  We went to a meeting last night with some folks from Connections Academy, and ran into an old co-worker from my days at Oak Unlimited.  Talking with him and the people there, it sounded like a great program.

So, we have just started the application process for Katelyn.  She will be the guinea pig.  If my wife can handle her without a problem, then homeschooling Angelique won’t be an issue.

So, keep us in your prayers as we start down this great path towards being homeschoolers.

  1. I really want to affirm, again, my wholehearted support for your decision on trying out the homeschooling. I will be praying for you both.

You go, you two! I’m totally in corner on this. Let me know if there is any way I can help!

  2. Thank you Chris for the support!

  3. I also want to affirm this too! We are going to do Connections Academy in the fall, and I would LOVE to pick your brain at about April to see how you feel this has gone. I am excited and terrified at the same time. Blessings to you and your family! Again, can I pick your brain later this spring?

  4. No problem you can pick my brain about it. We haven’t started yet since we are in the pre-approved stage. Hopefully now that the holidays are over we will know if she will be enrolled into it. I am hoping by the end of January will be started on it.
