Proverbs 22:15

Kate in dress being weird
“Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.” Proverbs 22:15

Those of you who know us know that we have a wild child. She is at times sweet, loving, and fun. But on other occasions she gets wild and uncontrolled and acts out on every stray impulse that comes across her mind.

Last night we were watching a movie as a family, and Katelyn was being a spaz, but since we were right there watching her it was ok, we could tell her to settle down. Well, during a break in the movie, she went upstairs for a minute while I changed Greggory’s diaper. She came back downstairs after just a short time upstairs alone.

If we ever as a country wanted to unleash chaos on one of our enemies in a short amount of time, all they would need to do was send Katelyn.

The few short minutes she was upstairs, she got into the Vic’s vapor rub, and proceeded to spread it on Tracy’s drinking bottle, then on several toothbrushes. She then took a color crayon and colored all over Tanisha’s LCD monitor.

Let’s just say that Tracy was, ummm, upset over the situation. Kate then proceeded to receive the rod of discipline. Part of that rod is that she is grounded from being in her room by herself or anywhere else in the house by herself. No more sneaking off and causing chaos.

This was just one small incident. Some days it seems like nothing we try works with her. She gets grounded, she gets punished, she gets praised when she does the right thing, but she still gets those wild impulses she can’t control.

I know part of it is that she needs to be regenerated. She needs the Holy Spirit to change her heart. She has heard the gospel, we talk to her about it and what God desires for her. Let’s keep praying that God will change her heart. At least with God’s Holy Spirit, those wild impulses will have something to contest with in the battle for her will.
